There is no shortage of cleaning companies in Mauritius. Search for one and you will find Facebook groups, directories and a handful of websites. What is harder to find is a way to tell them apart before you let one into your home.

These are the eight questions we would ask, as a cleaning company ourselves. Any good company should be able to answer every one of them without hesitating.

1. Can I see the price before anyone visits?

For an ordinary home, there is no reason a price cannot be given up front. The size of a home is known: bedrooms, bathrooms, any extras. A company that can only quote after a visit, or after a long message thread, is either pricing each customer differently or has not worked out its own costs.

We publish ours on a price list and let you build a quote on our home page in seconds.

2. What exactly is included?

“Cleaning” means different things to different companies. Ask what a regular clean covers, what a deep clean adds, and what costs extra. A good answer is specific: rooms, surfaces, appliances. A vague one leads to disappointment on the day.

3. Who brings the equipment and products?

Some services send a person who uses whatever you have. A professional company brings its own equipment and products, and knows which ones are safe on marble, wood, stainless steel or a delicate sofa fabric.

4. Will it be the same people each time?

For a regular clean this matters more than almost anything. A team that knows your home works faster, notices more and does not need the same instructions twice. Ask how the company schedules its teams.

5. How are the staff trained?

Cleaning well is a skill. Ask how new staff are trained and who checks their work. A company that invests in training will be glad you asked.

6. What happens if something is missed?

Everyone misses something eventually. What matters is what happens next. Ask how to report a problem and how quickly it is put right.

7. What happens if something is damaged?

Accidents are rare, but ask before they happen rather than after. A professional company will tell you plainly how it handles damage.

8. Do you cover my area, and when?

Many companies cover only part of the island. Check that yours works where you live, and that its hours fit yours. We clean across the North and West, from Grand Baie, Pereybère and Cap Malheureux to Tamarin and Black River, from a base in Moka.

Read the reviews properly

Reviews tell you more than any advert, if you read them well. Look at how recent they are, whether they describe the kind of clean you want, and how the company replies to the rare bad one. We are rated 5.0 on Google, and we would rather you read those reviews than take our word for anything.

A short checklist

  • A price you can see before anyone visits.
  • A clear list of what is included.
  • Their own equipment and products.
  • Trained staff, ideally the same team each time.
  • A simple way to report a problem.
  • Coverage where you live.
  • Recent, detailed reviews.

If you are still deciding between a company and help at home, read maid or cleaning company next.

Questions

Short answers to what we are asked most.

What is the best cleaning company in Mauritius?

The one that answers the questions in this guide clearly. Look for published prices, a written list of what is included, trained staff who bring their own equipment, and recent reviews from people in your area.

Should a cleaning company visit before giving a price?

For a standard home, a visit should not be needed: the price can be set by bedrooms and bathrooms. A visit makes sense for unusual work, such as cleaning after building work or a very large office.

What should I check in online reviews?

How recent they are, whether they describe the same kind of clean you want, and how the company replies when something went wrong. A handful of detailed recent reviews says more than many old ones.

Do cleaning companies in Mauritius bring their own products?

Most do, but ask. Some send a cleaner who uses whatever is in your cupboard. A professional company brings its own equipment and products, chosen for the surfaces it cleans.
